Bob and Lynn Ness & John and Emily Ness

Congratulations to the Ness Family, awarded the 2023 Heart of UA at the Foundation's sold-out event, May 21, 2023 at Scioto Country Club.

The Foundation was pleased to recognize the Ness Family for their civic responsibility, volunteerism, and support for Upper Arlington and beyond. Giving is a way of life for Lynn and Bob. At the UA Lutheran Church, Lynn leads bible studies and helps with youth programming. Bob serves on stewardship and capital campaign committees. Bob served on the Upper Arlington Board of Education while Lynn led workshops on how to talk with your kids about alcohol “TWYKAA”. Today, they support The Stand Project to combat substance misuse. They have passed on their spirit of giving to the next generation. Emily served as the Artists in Schools representative for the Tremont Elementary PTO. She was the driving force behind the school’s iconic mural, bringing together students, teachers, and parent volunteers to create a lasting legacy for all Tremont Lions to enjoy. A passion for education, the family also generously supports Wittenberg University. John is chair of the Junior Achievement board committed to teaching students about financial literacy. Bob and John have worked and owned ODW Logistics for many years and have grown it to be the largest logistics company in the area, employing hundreds of Central Ohioans. Bob and John are proud UA Rotarians, committed to “service above self” and served on the Upper Arlington Community Foundation Board of Trustees. Both families were integral in supporting the Foundation’s Amelita Mirolo Barn capital project and for connecting the community to participate. Today, John and Emily serve on the Upper Arlington Community Center Capital Campaign Committee, responsible for securing $8.1M for the Bob Crane Community Center.

Previous award winners include Sue Ralph (2022), Mary Ann Krauss (2021), Tim and Glenda Huffman (2019).
